From 1 July 2022 the national minimum wage increases to $812.60 per week ($21.38 an hour).  For a 38-hour per week full-time employee this is an increase of $40 per week or $1.05 an hour.

For most modern awards, minimum wages increase by 4.6% subject to a minimum increase for adult award classifications of $40 per week, meaning that:

  • for wage rates above $869.60 per week, minimum award wage rates increase by 4.6%; and
  • for wage rates below $869.60 per week, minimum award wage rates increase by $40 per week.

For a smaller number of modern awards the increases apply from 1 October 2022.

There are also increases for junior employees, employees on training arrangements and employees with a disability.

Recommended Actions

Some recommended actions are:

  1. to check wage increases for non-award and for award-covered employees to ensure that wages are still compliant after 1 July (or 1 October 2022 as the case may be); and
  2. to also review annualised salaries for compliance.
